Sight is a 2024 American biographical drama film directed by Andrew Hyatt, written by Hyatt, John Duigan, and Buzz McLaughlin, and starring Terry Chen and Greg Kinnear.[2] The film is about Ming Wang, a Chinese immigrant to the United States who became a renowned eye surgeon. It is based on Wang's 2016 autobiography From Darkness to Sight.[3]

Production

Filming began in Vancouver in April 2021 and wrapped after a six-week shoot in October 2021.[2][5]

Release

In April 2023, it was reported that Briarcliff Entertainment had acquired distribution rights for Sight and scheduled a release date for October 27, 2023.[6] In February 2024, Angel Studios acquired the rights and scheduled the film to be released on May 24, 2024.[7]

Box office

In the United States and Canada, Sight is scheduled to be released alongside Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga and The Garfield Movie, and is projected to gross around $3 million from 2,100 theaters in its four-day opening weekend.[8] It went to debut on $2.8 million at the first weekend, finishing seventh at the box office.[9]

Reception

On the review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes, 63% of 27 critics' reviews are positive, with an average rating of 5.8/10.[10] Metacritic, which uses a weighted average, assigned the film a score of 42 out of 100, based on four critics, indicating "mixed or average" reviews.[11] Audiences surveyed by CinemaScore gave the film an average grade of "A" on an A+ to F scale, while those polled by PostTrak gave it an average of 4 1/2 out of 5 stars, with 68% saying they would definitely recommend it.[12][13]
