Schwab Buys TD Ameritrade for 26 Billion

(Reuters) - Charles Schwab Corp (SCHW.N), the largest U.S. discount brokerage, is in talks to buy smaller rival TD Ameritrade (AMTD.O) and a deal could be announced as early as Thursday, CNBC reported, citing a source familiar with the matter.
Shares of TD Ameritrade, which has a market capitalization of $22.41 billion, rose more than 20% to $50.01 in trading before the bell. Charles Schwab dipped 3% to $43.40.
Both companies did not immediately respond to Reuters’ requests for comment.
A deal between Charles Schwab and TD Ameritrade could be seen as a strategic response to recent disruption in the industry.
Last month, Charles Schwab said it was eliminating commissions for online trading of stocks, ETFs and options listed on U.S. or Canadian exchanges, a move that was quickly followed by other players, including Fidelity Investments, E*Trade Financial (ETFC.O) and TD Ameritrade.
Nimbler rivals such as Menlo Park, California-based startup brokerage Robinhood have been capturing market share in recent years by offering commission-free stock trades.
If the deal goes through, Charles Schwab and TD Ameritrade would have combined assets of $5 trillion.

Lt. Col. Vindman. He's The Leaker.

Lt. Col. Vindman
Lt. Col. Alexander S. Vindman arrived on Capitol Hill on Oct. 29 to testify in the House impeachment inquiry of President Trump.

Lt. Colonel Alexander Vindman admitted to the House Intelligence Committee Tuesday to leaking information to the anti-Trump whistleblower at the center of the Democrats’ partisan impeachment proceedings.
“Lietenant Colonel Vindman, did you discuss the July 25 phone call with anyone outside the White House on July 25 or the 26 and if so, with whom?” Republican Rep. Devin Nunes of California inquired.
“Yes. I did,” Vindman answered in the affirmative.
When pressed on who Vindman spoke with about the call, Vindman said he spoke with two individuals not in the White House, including Deputy Assistant Secretary George Kent and another individual in the intelligence community that Vindman refused to name before being cut off by Democratic Chairman Adam Schiff.

Eric Ciaramella

Eric Ciaramella is a CIA analyst and former National Security Council staffer who has served in both the Obama and Trump administrations as a career intelligence officer. Senator Rand Paul tweeted a link to an article by Real Clear Investigations that named Ciaramella as possibly being the whistleblower who came forward with concerns about President Donald Trump’s interactions with the president of Ukraine, leading to an official impeachment inquiry.
Ciaramella was named on social media in early October and by Real Clear Investigations on October 30, after weeks of speculation about his identity. According to the conservative-leaning Real Clear Investigations, Ciaramella’s name has been an open secret in Washington D.C. His name has since been spread by conservative pundits and websites, including the Washington Examiner and The Federalist. Senator Paul called for the whistleblower to be subpoenaed to testify under oath. Republican Congressman Matt Gaetz also shared a link to the RCI article on Twitter.
